Laurence LOH

Laurence Loh is an award-winning Malaysian architect, heritage conservationist and advocate for sustainable development, with over five decades of experience in architecture and cultural heritage. He played a key role in promoting George Town’s inscription as a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage Site in 2008. He was awarded the 2019 PAM Gold Medal for Design Excellence and his lifelong contribution to architecture in Malaysia and internationally.

A long-standing contributor to UNESCO’s heritage programmes, he has served on the jury of the UNESCO Asia-Pacific Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation since 2001 and has advised World Heritage Sites across the Asia-Pacific.

His commitment to heritage, climate adaptation and sustainability is exemplified by the Esplanade Seawall and Promenade at Padang Kota Lama, Penang, Malaysia which received the 2025 UNESCO Asia-Pacific Heritage Awards for Cultural Heritage Conservation in the “New Design in Heritage Contexts” and “Special Recognition for Sustainable Development” categories.
